Summary: Nature takes its course. Set in future, but not exactly spoilery since it’s all speculation anyway. For theavatar100

The immortal red fortress sits on an island.

The Fire Nation, unstoppable, unending, is surrounded by gray ocean.

As apostles of the only god that matters, people of the superior element, it wasn’t impossible to dominate the ocean, to harness the current. It wasn’t impossible domesticate the earth, cleave then mend it into productive and appeasing shapes with machinery already turning the skies black with smoke from the factories, forges.

It wasn’t impossible, but it was grueling-adversity makes the Fire Nation powerful, potent. The harder nature thrashes, the colder and wetter the world turns, the stronger they become.

They have fought the savage warlords of the far countries, inferior elements; they have always prevailed.

They will always prevail.

This is not coincidence. This is destiny.

Five days before the silence and endless dark no one may speak of, the wind stops. The waves lap, listless. Animals go silent; even the cattle, hunting dogs. Plants seem to stop growing.

The Fire Nation is at war; Ba Xing Xe will fall to them, the last great obstacle to perfection.

Ba Xing Xe is on the other side of the known world. So is the Fire Nation’s army.

No one may speak, but everyone listens. Watches. Waits.

Three days before the silence, during this new silence, a speck seems to cross the sun. It’s small, inconsequential, and causes a stifled restless hysteria like a plague.

Some say it was merely a bird, lost. Others say it did not fly like a bird. Still others will say that only birds could fly, only birds. That is all.

Two days before, warships appear on the eastern horizon.

Something small, inconsequential, crosses the sun.

Nature takes its course.

A/N: Still not sure if that’s how you spell Ba Xing Xe yet. Also, apologies for long drabble; seriously kept trying to cut down the word length and not. Um. Doing it?
