The truth is, he never feels safe enough to give pieces of himself away, the way Temari, Kankuro, and Naruto do. He feels too much in danger of losing himself, of losing the demon, of losing them to take the chance.
I really loved this. and it's going in my memories :D
Yaay! Memories for me! This is a gentler, quieter Gaara than I'm really used to doing, but it's a nice different perspective. More human. Normally I like the monstrous homicidal machine, but this was nice too. Quiet.
Wow. Incredible. I liked the progression and how Gaara doesn't really grow up because he doesn't have the privilege to go through the growing part. Great drabbles.
Yeah--I've always liked the idea that Gaara never actually matures, not emotionally anyway, even though his mind gets more decisive and he stays just as powerful as ever.
Yay! I did Gaara accurately! Hurrah! And sure--please! Friend away; all my information is on my Profile, and if you're looking for more Gaara fic (and I've got a lot of Gaara fic--love this boy) it's all in my Memories. Hope that helps!
This here's my favorite bit: Neither Kankuro nor Temari have figured it out: he hasn’t changed. He’s still a monster, still the creature he was when he went on killing rampages. He can still massacre hundreds without qualms, without mercy, the only difference is he doesn’t have the motive anymore, the inclination.
He’s no more human now than he was before; he’s simply more thoughtful.
It outlines the subtlety of the change Gaara went through when Naruto defeated him. Gaara didn't suddenly become englightened, get a heart, discover God, move to skimmed milk and lived happily ever after. He didn't fundamentally change; he just changed the direction in which he was going. There's been knock-on effects on his character, but he's still recognizably Gaara.
Lovely drabble; simple and pared down on the outside, thought-provoking on the inside (with tastes of crunchy caramel to boot). Thanks for the treat ^__^
get a heart, discover God, move to skimmed milk *dies laughing* Aw...I think it was the skimmed milk that did it. It'll do that to you. But I think it's interesting how he didn't fundamentally change, just changed a little, then changed in another little yet significant way, and is just feeling his way around. It's more interesting than the skimmed milk version. I'm trying to work on being less verbose, so pared down is GOOD. I talk too much, I notice ^_^
*gasp* No Gaara icons at all? Seriously? Although, he tends to be a pretty underrated character--he does freak a lot of people out. And a lot of his sexier moments are completely insane, with pounding temples and drool and...man, I do love this boy. He's so COOL.
You saw the part where he takes Lee apart, right? He's so...fucked up in the head, I swear. I like him better when he's fucked up and bloody then when he's quieter and more "Maybe I should think about this before killing them or walking out", but he's still pretty cool, either way.

I really like how you convey him though, it's so simple, seemingly obvious, and ot.
