Yes, I'm safe.

I'd wanted to write about Rogue One because that's what I finally saw today with Mom. Because it really is the most important movie of the year, for so many reasons.

Instead, I came home to seven people asking if I was safe on FB and two more on Twitter asking the same (so many thanks for your concern, guys! So many!), the radio talking about "an attack in Berlin" (this is what happens when you don't have a smartphone and you forget to charge your Stone Age mobile phone) and the weird feeling of "this isn't happening".

At this point, we don't know what exactly happened and whether it was a terrorist attack or a tragic accident. At this point, I don't know what to say. All I know is that I'm not afraid of terrorism. What I'm afraid of is a continuing political shift to the right, of islamophobia continuing to rise, of right-wing nuts trying to make my beloved diverse, open and brash city into a symbol for their disgusting nazi agenda. Stay the fuck away, nazis. My city hated you the first time around, you have no place here. We don't need your "sympathy". We don't want your "sympathy". Just leave us the hell alone.

crazy hazy hue, being berlin, communist nazis, what i don't even, politics, parallel universe
