Spring crafting, round one.

So, winter is (meteorologically speaking) over (probably not for you guys in the US Mid-West and East Coast, huh?) which means: new decoration at Casa de Gila \o/ I wasn't quite sure if I wanted to make yet another door wreath but last weekend, I finally had a last minute idea for a wreath and dragged Mom to the craft store (don't worry, Mom loves shopping for crafting supplies!). Where I found almost everything except the right kind of satin ribbon. I mean, I did find satin ribbon but apparently, 6m (and a width of 2cm) of ocean green isn't nearly enough for a standard wreath styrofoam ring... long story short, on Monday I bought 14m of 5cm width turquoise satin ribbon and now I have about 10m left, so if anyone has an idea what to do with it, I'm open for suggestions.

Anyway, this is what I did the last two days:

I started out with a styrofoam ring which I wrapped in aforementioned satin ribbon (see my trusty GluePen? That's how I got it to stick, tehehe). Next step? Surprise.

Mh. What could it be?

Weird shape, huh?

Still weird (also overexposed but yeah, one can't have everything), isn't it?

Bit difficult to see but I rolled it up. For what?

Oh, wait. Is that a little flower? (spoiler: yes, it is. Don't mind me, I'm just being an idiot) Anyway, what the hell did I want with that flower?

Sew it up with crude stitches so it doesn't unravel immediately, for starters.

Also, glue it to the wreath form, so it can join up with its little flower friends \o/

So many friends!

Also, please note the little pins as pistils in this detailed shot (actually, they were just meant to keep the unglued flowers in place until the GluePen was recharged but I liked the look of it so I kept it even after glueing them on).

Okay, so what now? Oh, right, template, caron paper, pencil, actual paper I want to use and scalpel. So, basically, take the template, trace outlines through carbon paper on actual paper, use scalpel to cut out (responsibly! Always use scalpels responsibly, kids!), glue butterfly on wreath.

Like this, for example!

So, end result! What do you think?

I love its simplicity (I've seen so many spring wreaths that have like a hundred things and stuff on them and I realized that I wanted something simple for our door. Also, I loved all those wreaths with various variants of felt flowers on them and I didn't want a specifically Easter themed wreath so this seemed like a good idea) and the combination of yellow and teal and well, opinions, anyone?

Next project will be cross stitch flowers to hang on our windows, so I'll try to keep you posted?
