I did some baking today, for my middle sister and Mom. Originally, Mom and Dad wanted to attend a classical concert in town but Dad has some health issues currently (nothing major, just uncomfortable and inconvinient) so apparently, middle sister had decided that I would accompany Mom which I kind of objected to and she suggested I bake her scones that she wants to take with her to a birthday party and she'd go in my stead, so I did. Also, I wanted to be nice to Mom and gave her my latest
Lecker Bakery issue and told her to choose something. And here's what came out of it:
Front: pecorino tomato scones, back: vanilla scones, middle: my friendly neighborhood penguin kitchen timer.

And one of the vanilla scones:
The pecorino tomato scones originally are a Cynthia Barcomi (yes, yes, I adore Cynthia, okay?) goat cheese tomato scones but they didn't have any hard goat cheese (only the goat cheese rolls and the cream cheese variant which are totally unusable for this recipe), so we decided pecorino could work as well. They do taste nice (and I love their crumply, almost cracker-esque texture) but since I made them with goat cheese before, I'd actually say there's a difference. If I had a choice, I'd always use goat cheese but pecorino does work, too.
The vanilla scones are a recipe from the internet and I haven't tasted them yet. I hope my sister lets me have a bite when she comes back with Mom. I do like to know if my creations come out as desired or not.
Also, totally unrelated, according to the word count in
this, and my overall ffnet word count (about 1.2 million), I have written a bit more than 10 space operas (90K to 110K words each) since I turned 18. That was 13 years ago, so basically it was roughly a book a year. Now, if I could just translate that into actual publishable (ie. non fanfiction) writing...
