You guys, you guys!

Today, I received an e-mail telling me to pick up my student ID and TAN lists for the online enrollment system which means that I am finally properly enrolled in my Masters oh God! Now all I need to do is enroll in my classes and apply for state funding and everything will finally be right again (aside from the fact that I will be broke for two years straight if I don't get state funding approved...)! YAY!

Also, congratulations to the Americans on the flist for keeping Obama! I so very much don't get your polling system and remember only dimly what an electoral college is (we actually learned that in English at school... do you learn anything about our or any other polling systems? O_o) but whatever, you got to keep Obama :D I so, so, so have my fingers crossed that you'll finally get decent health care for everyone and so much more!

Last but not least, gave my first presentation at uni (female POWs of the Japanese) and am not sure what to make of it. I got to talk more than the others because I got not one positive answer to "So, guys, what else than Pearl Harbor do you know about WWII in the Pacific?" (in fact people tried not to look at me...) and the LTC decided that we needed to venture out of our Eurocentric history and have some info on the war in the Pacific (I loved that he kept vehemently reminding people that we don't have the right to call Americans "a people without history or culture" just because we don't know half of their history).

I think he at least found it interesting and had a couple things to say to it (the other students, though, had apparently nothing to say to it and I still don't know what to make of that...) but he reprimanded me for showing too much empathy with me objects of research :S (apparently, in German scientific context, objects of research are to be treated impassively and from a really great emotional distance... I think I like the Anglophone context better :S). Ach, ach...

same old same old, for science!, politics
