Okay, I had a trial run for the
Cookie Monster cupcakes I want to make for
heitidei's version of a rehearsal dinner (we don't have that here. Instead we break porcelain, have barbecue and people bring food and usually get pretty drunk. It's called
Polterabend.). Or, okay, I had fun experimenting with piping tips, trying to find out if any of those I have are suitable of if I really need to buy the Wilton tip mentioned in the Cookie Monster cupcake how to I linked you. I have never done this piping thing ever before so, err, sorry if they don't look very professional :S
Anyway. I took pictures so that you can see how messy I bake. Yes :D The cupcakes, BTW, are rose petal cupcakes from
the Hummingbird Bakery's Cake Days book.
So, kids... this is how you shouldn't fill the batter into muffin pan. And yes, I'm a messy baker. Please keep this in my find for the following pictures...
And this is how your batter bowl should not look after filling the batter into the pan...
No, silicon molds shouldn't look like this, either...
Okay, the cupcakes are in the oven now, let's have a look at the frosting. It's basically tons (160g) of butter and icing sugar (500g, I kid you not), a bit of milk (50ml) and rose water (three tea spoons)
This is how it look after our kitchen aid (not the Kitchen Aid, though) beat it into submission (I put it in the fridge until the cupcakes had cooled down because I can work better with cooled frosting):
And this is how they looked fresh out of the oven:
I had to cut off two of the tops... I'm sorry, little cupcakes! But your tops were delicious, at least.
Cupcakes again, one of the poor topless ones, too:
And this is how the ones in the silicon molds looked like:
So, let's start piping!
And this is the result (I'll spare you the in between because yes, messy, messy, messy):
I especially like this little chap (smoothed frosting in a little dome, rolled through lilac colored sprinkles, a little "flower" with a flat tip and a single pink nonpareille on top):
And this one (flat tip, squiggles, the picture sucks...):
This is a nice one, too (frosting in a dome, star tip piping, heart shaped sprinkles):
Aaand... we are done! Okay, minus the doing the dishes thing...
Alright, this is how I bake (minus a lot of messing up that I thought I'd spare you from). Questions? :D
And look at my beautiful new food icon! Made it meself!
