Apparently, apartment hunting in Berlin is just as crappy now as it was two years ago. Or even crappier because apartments have become even more expensive. I feel your pain... really.

To rent an apartment in my *small* town (an hour and a half outside the city) starts at $800 for a 1 bedroom.

To actually rent in the city you can get a 200 square foot studio (one room like the example) for $425 + $35 for utilities.

Your example sounds exactly like my apartment, and I live in a relatively small town about 45 minutes from Frankfurt. Argh! I'm looking for a new place as well, but it's hopeless.
