Ich bin ein Berliner.

(or, more accurately, eine Berlinerin, since I'm female but that's not the point and the quote doesn't go that way anyway so screw correct German grammar)

As of today, I'm officially a Berliner again (i.e. I'm registered with the authorities here). I burned all administrative bridges to the town I lived in for the last seven years (no, I won't ever mention its name because I'm kind of paranoid that way... I'll call it Town That Was or TTW for the time being, okay?) but I just have the feeling that I'll need a little time until I get used to it. At the moment, I still feel like I should do everything I want to do at breakneck speed because OMG I HAVE TO GO BACK AT SOME POINT...

Only to realize that hey... I suddenly have all the time in the world again to do administrative stuff in Berlin, go shopping, sightseeing, visit the libraries I frequented when I was still a highschool student (in fact, the second administrative thing after getting registered with the community today was to get registered at the local library... and how come it's cheaper than it used to be in TTW which is way smaller than Berlin and has less libraries (also, not so cool libraries... I can now use the wonderful ZLB (including the Amerika-Gedenkbibliothek which was donated to the city by the US after the Berlin Blockade 1948/49) and all the wonderful regional libraries again (also am contemplating registering with the StaBi... mh...)), pay my respects to the Ehrenmal der Bundeswehr, finally finish visiting the exhibition on German resistance in the Third Reich, use my ClassicCard... whee, I love big cities!

In other news, today I found out I actually have all the stuff I need to send to the State Department prior to the oral examn by February 4th. Yay me, I managed not to sabotage myself for once! It's a miracle. Now all I need to do is not miss the deadline for sending it away and have all of it together in one envelope. Shouldn't be too hard, now should it (even considering that we're talking about me here)?

I also will hopefully get to talk to the people from the judo and fencing departments of the sports club I decided to join. I'm just not the workout and gym kind of girl but I need to do something to keep in shape so getting back to some good old tension management by martial arts is probably a good idea. Ohohoh, and knitting circles! I want a knitting circle where people are my age, not twice or three times my age! I tried that twice in TTW and was always unhappy with the results so hopefully a hip big city like Berlin will offer some cool urban living stitch'n'bitch covens for its cool urban inhabitants! Also... need to find way to learn French, in the highly unlikely case the State Department wants me as a student and later employee. Oooh, so much to do, so much to see, so what's wrong with taking the back streets... wait, must not get carried away with song lyrics.

Oh, and I've been wondering... does anyone know when nominations for the SG Fan Awards 2009 will start? It's almost impossible to find out anything about them and I'm starting to get worried that they suffered the same fate as the Isis Awards (which are discontinued or so I've been told).

big pile of squee, red tape jungle, fannish stuff
