sajina gave me:
- Australia: One of those dreams I'm not quite sure if I will ever fulfill them. I'm still thinking about doing the Work & Travel thing (and have to make up my mind fast since the age limit was 30 if I'm not mistaken) but couldn't get up the courage to do it yet.
- Bundeswehr: Back in July 2001 I was one of the first 300 odd female officer candidates in a non-medical/non-musical Bundeswehr unit (in my case OpInfo/PSYOPS). It didn't work out and six months later I was a civilian again but I never quite got my mind off the whole thing. Everything concerning the Bundeswehr is of interest to me and quite frankly... I still haven't quite put away the thought of trying to re-enlist again.
- Cornelia Funke: I adore the Ink World series, even if I couldn't stand Dustfinger most of the time. Ink World shaped my writing (or at least I hope it did) and I just loved the way Funke wrote about books (because, in the end, Ink World was about writing and books). I felt so... understood by her, as a writer and a reader and Eleanore Loredan is my hero.
- Gilmore Girls: I came to love it pretty late but I still could watch almost every episode again and again (apart from those in the last Season when Lorelai and Christopher are an item... BLERGH! Lorelai/Luke FTW!). Lorelai Gilmore is my hero and I wish I could write dialogues like Dan Palladino and Amy Sherman-Palladino. Why oh why are the complete boxes so damn expensive?
- IKEA: Alright, I admit it, IKEA and I are best friends. I can pick out IKEA products in every household and I anxiously wait for the new catalogue and the seasonal products. Also... at one point I realized with a certain amount of shame that they could as well do a shooting for the catalogue in my home...
- Lorne/Cadman: I still have no idea why this pairing of all those that I ship became my greatest obsession (writing-wise). I think it started when I discovered GateWorld and the LorneLovers-thread as well as the Beckett/Cadman-thread. I'd also read two really great Lorne/Cadman friendship stories on ff.net (The Willow Song and Astronauts, and Other Dreams by Altaria Volante) ages ago. After I'd posted Out of Reach in the Beckett/Cadman-thread, someone asked if I ever thought about doing a sequel, now that Carson was back and for some reason Lorne just wouldn't stay out of those sequels (Seize The Day and Where It All Began, by the way). So, uh... even though I'd wanted to keep it simply at friendship, they wouldn't obey me and thus the Protect and Survive series was born. Also, I started to look around how other writers wrote them and... Yeah, I guess that's how it started.
- Scotland: It's all my mother's fault. Back in the early 90ies she developed a love for Scotland (or was that earlier? Mom?) and Runrig. My first trip was when I was 12, with her and my uncle and back then I hadn't been that impressed but I think the Glen Coe and its story kind of got to me, even back then. The whole thing fell into the background but for some reason today I'm much more of a Scotland and a Runrig (those two are inseparable in my head and heart) fan than my mom. It's the whole history, the mentality, the language... just really everything, basically. After my Interrail trip to Great Britain in 2007 I'm also in love with the landscape all over again. Also, one of the things on my "Things I have to do at least once in life" list is attending a Runrig concert in Scotland because the rock and they rock even more when they are playing in Scotland ;)
