Children do need to be taught different ways to meet their individual needs. As teachers it is our responsibility to find out what those needs are early on in the year so we can better meet each child's needs in the classroom right away.
I also agreed with your 'learning by doing' approach. I was just in a classroom where a girl would whine to the teacher about some 'injustice' she experienced. The teacher would tell the child to stop whining and communicate what she was saying. Then the teacher would blow off her complaint because it was made in a whining tone in the first place. I would approach the situation differently. How is the child going to learn to communicate her feelings of injustice if she never practices?
I think it's cool that you incorporate technology in your classroom the way you do. Children are so interested in themselves, and teaching them how to use technology to see themselves is such a good motivator. I hope to have my own classroom one day where I can do cool stuff with the kids that is technology based and away from the ordinary.
Take Care,
Erin :)
