I went to the demo in support of pussy riot in Oslo, a week ago. It took place outside the russian embassy in Oslo. I took some pictures with my diana instax-camera, here are most of them with some comments. (The pictures are a little blurry and out of focus, but it is part of the style of this camera.)
Perhaps 100-150 people had come to the demonstration. That may not sound so many, but its substantially more than usual for human-rights related protests.
The participants had made colorful masks earlier, and looked stylish. The demo seemed to attract different types of people - some students, some left-wing punk activists, some human rights activists and NGO-workers.
The banners - "release pussy riot." Some of the protesters had collected a large amount of signatures supporting the group, and wanted to give those to the embassy. However, when contacted the people in the embassy politely informed that it was their lunch hour during the time of the protest.
One of the organisers of the protest, making an appeal in a speaker.
There where many journalists at the event. Usually in a local protest, demonstrators can be lucky if a local newspaper send a journalist that writes about them. Often, noone writes anything in the mainstream press. Here where journalists from national TV, radio, the national news agency, as well as national newspapers. It is obvious that they considered pussy riot to be very good material for a story.
While the protesters were protesting, a pair of newly weds and their followers came out of the embassy, passing the protestesters. They where smiling, waving a little. One may think, perhaps people connected to the embassy have some sympathies for the cause as well.
