Quotations From The Shrubbery

Oct 10, 2004 09:48

It's important for us to explain to our nation that life is important. It's not only life of babies, but it's life of children living in, you know, the dark dungeons of the Internet.

--The Shrub, Arlington Heights, Illinois, Oct. 24, 2000

Dark dungeons. The first thing that springs to mind is the Jack Chick tract by that name. (Note--the link leads to a "MST3K meets Dark Dungeons" site.)

ETA: As it was pointed out, and correctly, that the Shrub said the above even before the sham election, I thought I would add a couple of other idiotic things he has said more recently.

First, note the sterling grasp of geography in this statement, made this June:

But we've got a big border in Texas, with Mexico, obviously -- and we've got a big border with Canada -- Arizona is affected.

-- Washington, D.C., Jun. 24, 2004

Texas borders on Mexico, Arizona (!) and Canada(!!). Or is he saying that Canada borders on Arizona? Geez, and I thought Reagan was geographically challenged.

Second, this theological statement, made while on the campaign trail this July:

I trust God speaks through me. Without that, I couldn’t do my job.

--Statement made during campaign visit to Amish community in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, Jul. 9, 2004

I hope the Amish and the Mennonites of Pennsylvania all shun the Shrub in November. I mean, if anyone ever deserved shunning...
