And oh, my,
there are a lot of stories--230, in fact. I've only read a few so far, but they're all lovely.
The one I wrote...well, if names were hidden, you'd never guess it, as I wrote for a fandom so small it literally didn't have any stories on AO3 before this:
Alabaster (Interactive Fiction), a game which re-tells Snow White as a horror story. There are eighteen endings...and, to quote the creators, some are ALMOST happy. My story is called
Shards of a Broken Mirror, and focuses on three characters from the game, two of whom don't get voices (the Queen and her mirror).
Stories that I'm reccing:
15th Century RPF
Queen of Swords by La Reine Noire
For the duchess of Burgundy, there are no easy decisions.
This story shows Margaret of York (sister of Edward IV and Richard III) after her husband is killed, demanding truthful answers of her brothers about another brother's death (and not get tting it) and plotting, even in old age, to bedevil Henry VII. She's a fiercely loyal woman with a deep love for her siblings while seeing their flaws all too well. If you love The Hollow Crown, The Borgias or A Game of Thrones, you love this.
Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magika | Puella Magi Madoka Magica
Before Before by Reyka_Sivao
There was no way she could remember...but still the girl ran through her dreams.
This is a story about Madoka's mother, Junko. It's hard to describe what it's about without spoiling the series, but it's about memory, loss, the power of wishes and the power of love. It breaks your heart...but in a good way. Read it. You'll be glad you did.
Mary Poppins (1964)
Pictures in the Pavement and Magic in the Rain by El Staplador
Time moves on, and when the wind changes, things happen. Usually Mary Poppins is there, somewhere.
How do I describe this one? Well, it's about the value of women's work and women's causes and the importance of being who you are. Mary Poppins is there (whether it's for Jane Banks at loose ends, receiving kite-pleas from Winifred Banks, or mourning the Bird Woman), but one thing she never quite says and that you never stop hearing is that no one is less than she is just because she isn't magic. I cried at the end. Not gonna lie.
Once Upon a Time, Buffy the Vampire Slayer
A Match Made in Hell by DarkSeraphim,
She wasn't going to allow herself to end up in some meatbag. But she needs a place to lie low, just for a little while...
This is the story of Glorificus from Buffy the Vampire Slayer meeting Maleficent from Once Upon a Time. That's really all you need to know. (Now I want to know what happened when they combined forces. Because you know they would if it benefited them.)
The Silmarillion and other histories of Middle-Earth - J. R. R. Tolkien
Warp and Weft by Iavalir
What is a dwarf doing in the Halls of Vairë?
Oh, this story. I cannot tell you how long I've wanted a story about Dís, Thorin Oakenshield's sister. This story shows her to us in the Halls of the Valie who weaves time itself and a friendship cropping up between Dís and an elf called
Miriel. I think that what I liked best was the portrayal of the two at the loom. Both were recording the events that they saw happening...and yet they were also trying to shape what they saw into something beautiful.
That's all I've read so far, but I'll be reading more. You better believe I will.
