Which TV shows did you start watching in 2012?
Um...well, not much, unless you count watching online, in which case you could probably count Puella Magi Madoka Magica and Princess Tutu. I also watched the first season of Warehouse 13 and a few of the True Blood and Revenge episodes, but I didn't stick with them.
Part of the problem is that TV, with its rigid scheduling, is not what I need right now. I'm inclined to get tired early in the afternoon and then sleep for hours until long after prime time is over. If it's a question of my ability to stay awake and healthy vs. a good show on TV, sleep is going to come first. So I need TV that I can schedule for when I'm awake and have time. This means online viewing, and sadly, the staffs of many shows haven't figured out that this is desirable.
Which TV shows did you let go of in 2012?
Doctor Who, with great sorrow. Asylum of the Daleks was the last straw for me. I couldn't stand seeing one more woman die, be victimized or be reduced to the default for good Moffat women--becoming a wife (and, if she's VERY good, a mother) in order to validate her existence. Also, I'm really, really sick of the writers insisting that the Doctor destroys everyone that he comes in contact with; the Doctor has always tried to make things better. The Master is the destroyer.
This isn't the same show that I fell in love with twice. It's turned into bad fan fiction.
Which TV shows did you mean to get into but didn't in 2012? Why?
Once Upon A Time, which I've heard good things about but that I'm reluctant to start watching now that I've missed so much of it, and possibly Grimm, for much the same reason.
Which TV shows do you intend on checking out in 2013?
Once Upon A Time, Grimm and maybe Elementary, if I can find them online and catch up on what I've missed. Otherwise, no.
Which TV show impressed you least in 2012?
The award has to go to A Game of Thrones. HBO changed
far too much. There were a great many good scenes, but they made hash of the characters, the overall plot of the series or both. I honestly don't know how HBO is going to fix a lot of the plotholes that these changes have created.
Which TV show did you enjoy the most in 2012?
Probably The Hollow Crown, especially their visually stunning version of Richard II. Ben Whishaw and Rory Kinnear were brilliant as Richard II and Henry Bolingbroke (later Henry IV), respectively. (Though Jeremy Irons and Tom Hiddleston were almost as good as the older version of Henry IV and his son, Prince Hal.) It didn't matter that I couldn't understand a lot of the language; the actors got the emotion across flawlessly.
