Election 2012: Voting

Nov 06, 2012 14:49

Yes, I went and voted. Dial-A-Ride picked me up at 8:30 this morning, and it was a good thing that the driver came so early, because the line to vote ran down one side of the voting place's hallway and up the other side. We were in line for forty-five minutes. Thank God I brought my walker; I needed something to lean on by the end, for my hips were giving out. Also, thank God for the woman who fetched me a chair so that I could sit down and rest a bit, and the one who pushed it along behind me. (I was worried that I was going to pass out, and I guess I looked like I was going to pass out, too.)

To make matters worse, that long line was only for people who lived on streets in half of the alphabet. People from the other half of the alphabet only had to walk in the door before being escorted straight past the line and to the voting booths. This, as may be imagined, didn't go over well--even more so because quite a lot of elderly people lived on streets that qualified them for the long, LONG line.

The workers were trying, but they didn't have much information to work with or much guidance. One of them said that she'd been reassigned to my voting place that very morning.

Bottom line? This was NOT a voting place that was elderly-friendly or disabled-friendly. People were leaving before they got through the whole line, i.e. before they voted.

I want to complain, but I'm not sure who I should complain TO.
