Hurricane Sandy is bearing down on the Eastern seaboard, and my area is under a high winds warning. They're predicting EXTENDED power outages. Because, you know, we need that. I'm hoping that Hurricane Sandy will blow itself out to sea--or, failing that, that the wind speed will go down. I don't want to deal with branches crashing through the roof (or the side of the house) or with losing power for God knows how long. Selfish, I suppose, but if I lose electricity, I lose everything: lights, heat, landline, minutes for the coming month (Tracfone won't transfer the minutes if the phone isn't plugged into the charger, or if you don't have power), the ability to cook, the lymphatic pump (think dialysis for lymphedema patients) and, of course, computer and Internet.
No, I do not have gas. I cannot afford the switch to gas; I've priced it. I have also priced generators. They cost too much.
So I'm screwed. For the second year in a row.
I'm trying not to sink into depression in anticipation of yet another shitty storm.
The weather is being bitchy on both coasts, it seems.
Last night, after a 7.7 earthquake in Canada, there was a tsunami scare from Hawaii to Alaska.
I'm just waiting for some politician to start dribbling nonsense about how the bad weather is all God's wrath and that should tell us how we're supposed to vote, yadda yadda yadda.
Anyway, if you don't hear from me in the next few days, I have probably lost power and have NO Internet access.
I'm still preparing, but I'm not sure preparations are going to do one ounce of good. Frankly, I just want to run to the Midwest, as far from the storms as I can get.
P.S. I probably should have used a Doctor Who icon. After all, he's the Oncoming Storm.
Here. Have a few dragon hatchlings:
