Fannish 5: Five Happy Endings You Don't Like

I had to think about this for a bit. It surprised me how many books and TV shows I watch that have sad endings. Also, because I cannot answer these questions without going into depth about what I don't like, the answers tend to be long. You have been warned.

I personally would add the "happy ending" of Breaking Dawn in there. Irena was brutally murdered in front of her sisters. The Volturi are still around, killing tourists in Volterra. If they're as underhanded and evil as we're to believe they are, they'll certainly attack the Cullens again and, more likely than not, "convince" the dhampirs in South America to join them, effectively dragging a bunch of innocent people into their little war (and given that it's the Twilight world, I'm sure those dhampirs would be revealed to be horrible people if we knew more about them. As far as we're told though, they're innocent). The werewolf teenagers are still forced to transform into werewolves, because the Cullens can't get off of their sparkly asses and live elsewhere in the world. Charlie is left with the vague knowledge that something is off about his daughter, and he's either going to have to watch her vanish or go through dying of old age while she stays something immortal and clearly inhuman. Renee probably won't know what happened to her daughter at all. Bella's daughter, meanwhile, is fated to marry Mommy Dearest's secondary love interest, having effectively become engaged when she was minutes old.

But hey, who cares about any of that? Bella is sparkly and immortal and rich and gets SEX with Edward. Isn't that GREAT?

The ending to Hush, Hush needs to be added as well.

Oh yes, of course. It hasn't come out yet, but I'd wager a good bit of money that the end of the Hush, Hush series in general would make the list. Fitzpatrick already said they were getting a happy ending, and I'm fairly sure she won't write Nora taking a nail driver to Patch's balls, while he's dragged by the angels into Hell.

I was just thinking of the ending of the first book, actually.

Ah yes, that too. I think aikaterini summed up any instance of Nora and Patch getting a happy ending: "Oh, yes, I'm so eager to find out how the unrepentant, abusive sexual predator and his victim will live happily ever after"

Thinking about it, the Goddesses Test would probably fit as well. Dunno if you know the ending to it or not, but let's just say that Carter clearly did not recognize the...erm, implications of the shit Demeter pulls.
