More About the Former Power of Attorney
I just got bitched out by Sharon, the daughter of the former P.O.A. She's mad that I didn't "send" her a hundred dollars for pulling the branches that fell from my tree to the street.
Here's the thing. I pulled a fair number of those branches to the curb myself, and Andrew--my lawn guy, with whom I have a standing agreement to take branches out of the yard (as well as raking, mowing and shoveling snow)--says he did the rest. I believe him. He's a good worker, he shows up even when the weather is horrible and he never overcharges. He also noted, as Sharon did not, that some of the branches were close to the curb when he started. Those would have been the ones that I pulled there.
Well, I told Sharon that I paid the guy who did it and she started SCREAMING. Never mind that I have had independent confirmation from two neighbors that Andrew did the work. Never mind that I didn't ask her to do anything. She feels cheated that I didn't just hand over a hundred dollars on Sunday...even though I didn't have the money at the time.
She then started saying that I wasn't being fair and that Andrew hadn't cut up the wood or tied it up or ANYTHING. (The city said to just get the wood to the curb and not do anything else. So I don't expect him to have done this. And the city is being very slow about picking up the branches, but that's this town, what can you say.)
Then she said that she'd done all kinds of work in my yard. "Didn't you hear the blower today?" she demanded.
"No," I said.
"You didn't hear--"
"No..."
Then she REALLY started yelling. "You've got a hell of an attitude, Gehayi!" (Because I didn't hear her blowing the leaves out of my yard, apparently. Also, I went out today to check on the trees, and the yard was FILLED with leaves. No one had removed any leaves. I could tell.) "Don't you call me the next time you need help!"
Not knowing what else to say--after all, I didn't call her this time--I said, "Okay," and hung up.
So apparently I'm a bad person because I paid the guy I've told to clear branches for clearing branches and because I realized that she didn't blow any leaves out of my yard.
Now I'm sitting here, hoping that she won't stomp over to my house tonight. And I'm mad that I have to be scared of being bullied by this greedy woman.
