There are times I just don't even recognize the United States anymore. I am disgusted by these outrages.
First we've got this.
GOP Congressional Candidate from Iowa asks: "I can microchip my dog so I can find it. Why can't I microchip an illegal?" Yeah, because that doesn't imply that illegal immigrants are animals, property or things and deserve to be treated like animals, property and things.
Granted, this is not an existing policy. But the man wants to make it one. And xenophobia is popular these days. (If you want to demand that he apologize, go
here.)
And speaking of xenophobia, just look at the next story.
The Dove World Outreach Center, a "Christian" church based in Florida, has designated 9/11 "International Burn a Koran Day," and is using a Facebook fan page to spread its hate. I put "Christian" in quotations deliberately--the quotation marks aren't in the original article. Frankly, though, DWOC seems to be one of those organizations that, like the Westboro Baptist Church, calls itself Christian but only worships hate.
(I think we should call DWOC and their ilk "Hate-ites." It would describe them far them more accurately. I cannot think that holding a festival of hate which effectively equates an entire religion with terrorism has anything to do with the ideals of Christ.)
There's a petition to Facebook to remove the fan page, as pages advocating hatred are against Facebook policy, but it hasn't got much momentum yet.
