It snowed last night. And it is still snowing now.
This means that, since unfortunately snow does not fall solely on lawns, trees and bushes (although that would be the ideal form of snowfall, in my view), my driveway has snow on it. Since the snow is still falling, and since my snow guy does not come until after snow stops, as a rule, this means that the driveway is not shoveled.
I have no problem with this. It makes sense to me. And honestly, I have less of an issue about walking through snow than I do with walking on black ice.
Now. I have an appointment to go to the Wound Center today. This is important, as I have an infection (MRSA) and need to get a prescription for it. And since my old doctor recently left the Wound Center to work in another part of Hartford Hospital, the Wound Center is flat-out refusing to get me the prescription I need until another doctor sees me. Never mind that my bulging medical record is full of references to this particular recurring infection and the medicines used to treat it.
However...I will not be going to the Wound Center today. The Dial-A-Ride van came by, saw that the pathways were not shoveled, and drove on by. The dispatcher claims that DAR will not stop and pick up anyone whose sidewalk and driveway are not clear...though I've seen drivers stop and pick up people in poor sections of Hartford whose sidewalk and driveways are not clear, so I don't know where this alleged rule has come from all of a sudden.
Given that the snow has not stopped falling yet and that my snow guy has therefore not even begun shoveling, I am not surprised that my driveway is not clear. There is not a thing that I can do about it, either, unless DAR wants me to attach a snowplow to my walker.
So, I will be staying home. And all of my efforts to arrange things properly and take care of my health have been rendered useless.
Thanks ever so, Mother Nature. I really needed that.
