Using my only Dumbledore icon for this.

To my friends list, which is going nuts about JKR outing Dumbledore:

I called this back in June of 2006 in Chapter 13 of HBP Spork. underlucius called it back in Chapter 4.

Oh, I think even in the books it seems like it was an open secret, especially given Rita's innuendo. I just, I dunno. I can appreciate the fact she actually made someone gay, I just have mixed feelings about it.

And of course, more shit is sure to hit the fan:

The truth is, in my younger days, I dated Ron more than once,” she admitted, giving an inside look at why Hermione (the closest character to Rowling’s younger self) might be attracted to Harry’s best friend. “He’s fun to write, but not so much fun to date.” And once she had learned her lesson, Rowling said, “I married Harry Potter,” referring to her second husband, Neil Murray.

From here: http://www.mtv.com/movies/news/articles/1572399/20071019/story.jhtml I found the tagline very interesting. *facepalm*

I don't really have any mixed feelings about it. To me, Dumbledore is the most asexual character in the world. And the fact that Dumbledore is allegedly gay--according to THIS interview, anyway; we'll see how long she remembers that--doesn't improve him or change him in any way.

Besides, I loathe Dumbledore's actions and personality with a passion.

Before, Dumbledore was an arrogant, self-righteous, manipulative son-of-a-bitch.

Now, it appears, he was an arrogant, self-righteous, manipulative son-of-a-bitch who happened to be gay.

A little alternative sexuality doesn't change who he is.

Oh, him being gay doesn't really make me like him more. Prior to HBP I liked him in the same sort of way I enjoyed other ambiguous characters but after that he sort of lost his charm, if you can call it that - but a lot of that might be falling out of love with the series itself, I'm afraid.

I just have mixed feelings about the only confirmed gay character being, as you say, an arrogant, self-righteous manipulative son-of-a-bitch who fell in love with a bigot.

While almost everyone else either dies, pines for someone, is married or at least has an implied heterosexual love interest.

A son-of-a-bitch who advocated Muggle slavery and Muggle torture, mind you. And whose ideas became the basis for Grindelwald's campaign as Dark Lord. How is this supposed to be positive again?

While almost everyone else either dies, pines for someone, is married or at least has an implied heterosexual love interest.

You know, you're right.

HBP killed my interest in the series. Deathly Hallows danced on its grave.

Yeah. While I didn't find DH as bad as HBP, a lot of it just. Didn't jive for me. But it has gotten me much more interested in working on my own characters/story.

If nothing else, these new interviews are showing me why I really really don't like reading interviews.

I don't need to know that Harry and Ginny are soul mates in the same breath as JKR dated "Ron" several times and then married "Harry."

And the wizarding world is SO tolerant isn't it? If he's closeted as tightly as he seems to be because he's the only gay in the Village wizarding world, it explains a lot.

I like Dumbledore/Grindelwald, but I like them as two selfish, manipulative people, because Dumbledore is...Dumbledore, and he's not the kind, wise mentor of the previous books anymore. So I like Dumbledore being gay, if not so much the man himself.
