I don't know what you can do, if anything. The Shrubbery (Ni!) has been pretty good at ignoring everything the public wants this far. My advice, if it ever looks like he might assume that power, is to leave, fast.

It makes me feel nauseated, too. I'd run as far as I could from Amerika--and yes, that misspelling is deliberate--if I had the money. Unfortunately, thanks to a catastrophic illness a couple of years ago, I'm broke, and what little I own is mortgaged to the hilt. As a liberal, atheistic, handicapped woman in Amerika today--well, I don't fall into the categories favored by anyone in power.

A similar loophole in our old constitution brought Hitler into power and no one (except some brainless neo-nazi morons who have no idea what they're talking about) would want that particular case to be repeated. It's not even IN this constitution. Nor is it a bill, a law, or a judicial decision. It's just a proclamation by the President, and it has force of law because...well, because he says it does ( ... )

I don't know Godwin's Law, but I agree, nazis are generally overused. In this case, however, the similarity just beats you over the head.
The first thing that came to my mind was Caesar's "perpetual dictatorship", anyway, maybe because of the similar use of terminology involved.

Yes, the discrepancy between what is in the constitution and everyday politcs is rather blatant. Terrorism is used as an excuse for all violations one can think of and hardly anybody stands up to say a thing against it. The actual number of victims of terrorism stand in no sensible relation to the victims of the government's "counteractions" (and in how far those are really against terrorism, is highly debatable) and violation of basic human rights.

The worst problem is, there isn't even any place left to run.

Godwin's law is to stop 'nazi' becoming such a catch-all insult. However, there are times, like this one, when it's not an insult but a proper title.

You're right, we are in shit.

I second that "run like Hell".

Okay. Now I'm really scared. I've been scared of this president from day one, but now I'm fucking terrified. I can see the pattern too, and I have this feeling that he/someone else is going to do something that brings about him and/or someone else using this thing. And gods, I don't want that to happen.

And this is why I support anyone of the many people who are taking a stand against that loony. *shudders* I certainly hope that more people take a stand against The Shrubbery, but then again there are so many idiots around nowadays.

Of course, this could be one of the first signs that Amerika is in its death throes... but I still get the heebies just thinking of the ways Georgie Witless could abuse this kind of power.
