The canons that I know would be Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Lord of the Rings,
Highlander, Doctor Who and, of course, Harry Potter. (I'll omit Star Wars because I don't really have personal canon for that, and A Song

1) Drusilla isn't her real name. Angelus named her that, after Caligula's insane and incestuous sister. Darla thought that was funny, so it stuck.

2) Angelus was playing the part of a suitor to one of Dru's sisters in order to get into the house. Once there, he slaughtered the whole family. Dru didn't witness the killings--she was locked in an attic room, along with a few dozen religious symbols that seemed to calm her down, for even then she was suffering from mental problems caused by her psychic abilities. However, she did find the carnage afterwards.

Dru became convinced that the Devil had been in the house, that he'd sensed her evil [translation: her prophetic ability] and that he'd killed her whole family to make sure that there wasn't a single person she had left to turn to. Panic-stricken, and not knowing where else to go, she bolted for a nearby convent. It was an Episcopal convent, by the way.

3) Dru chops the heads off of dolls as a way of acting out what she knows is wrong with her: 1) the dolls, like her, have lost their heads...and 2) they are missing something very basic that would make them easy to identify as human-like individuals.

Yes! I totally agree with you. I was reading about Caligula's sister and it seemed so obvious that Dru was named after her by Angelus. And then I tried to guess her real name, but I couldn't come up with sth. :-)

Interesting theory about how she was approached by Angelus. It's like his style.
I wonder if she was supposed to be a Seer for the Powers that be, and if Angel realizes that and sees a part of Dru in Cordy.

I wonder if she was supposed to be a Seer for the Powers that be, and if Angel realizes that and sees a part of Dru in Cordy.

I think she was supposed to be a Seer, and that that's one of those that Angel figured out once he got his soul back. Sudden awareness of his murders caught his immediate attention, but once he figured out how much damage he'd done to the world by destroying Dru's life and mind...OUCH.
