Grr. What is with Indian audiences and kissing? Either its :
- "OMG MALLIKA SHERAWAT! She had 17 kisses in that film" ( 'Kwaahish' or something). See. It got so much into my head that I remember the number of kisses but not the movies name!
- "OMG EMRAAN HASHMI! He kisses ALL his leading ladies!". And this went on and on untill it reached "OMG EMRAAN HASHMI DIDNT KISS HIS RECENT LEADING LADY!". Err. Ok?
And now some fellow has filed a case against Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya for 'obscenity' in Dhoom 2. I understand there are people ut there who are uncomfortable with scenes like this. But thats doesn't mean that entire world agrees with you. That kiss was pretty hyped, so mostly everyone knew about it before the movie was released. Atleast, I knew about it before I watched it. To tell you the truth, I was pretty disgusted at the thought of watching Hrithik Roshan smooch someone on screen, but actually I rather liked him in the film. And the kiss was not over done, it was fine. Quite cute .Sigh. (maaaybe I should stop going into so much detail right about... NOW).
When are people going to find better things to file cases about? Can you file cases against people filing stupid cases?
Warning: MY opinion ahead
"The root of the problem is a kissing scene from a movie starring Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan, and has upset an Indian lawyer who has filed a criminal case against them, accusing them of obscenity, he said on Sunday to Indian news outlets.
Shailendra Dwivedi of Indore, near Bhopal, the capital of central Madhya Pradesh state, said the scene from the movie, titled "Dhoom 2," lowered the dignity of Indian women and gave an obscene message to youth.
"Bollywood actors are conveying vulgarity in the society," Dwivedi told Reuters. "These films cannot be watched with our families, they are so vulgar at times."
The Himalayan Times reports that a local court "accepted Dwivedi's petition to punish the actors and said it would hear the petitioner on December 11th."
The Indian censor board released the movie with a "parental discretion" certificate.
"A majority of Indians frown upon intimacy in public." Reports the Himalayan Times."
Source Umm.. I fail to see how this kiss lowered the dignity of Indian woman? No, I really want to know. By kissing a man on screen, a woman's dignity is lowered? And ah, men are taking up the issue on the women's behalf hmm? How touching. And about the obscene message to youth thing : OMG! Kissing is obscene? Eve-teasing is obscene. Flashing is obscene. Physically or mentally torturing a person is obscene. Why don't we look at that definition of obscene before we jump all the way to a KISS?
I think that a lot people ( read bollywood movie watching people) tend to turn their 'super stars' into 'super gods'. Dont get me wrong, I'm a big Bollywood movie watcher myself , but a lot of people tend to confuse the characters in the film (reel life) and their actual personas (real life). Even I get caught up in it. I mean, for long time as a kid I used to think Shahrukh and Kajol were married ! Err ok digressing. Anyway the point is, I guess the audience has a certain set of do's and dont's in their minds. After all, watching a movie can be one form of escapism right?
So I guess they go watch a movie thinking 'this is going to be a nice clean movie where the bad guys are genuinely bad (not in the case of Dhoom and Dhoom 2) and the good guys are REALLY PERFECTLEY PERFECTLY GOOD ( again, not in the case of Dhoom and Dhoom 2). Oh yeah and the bad guys will be ugly! ( DEFINITELY not in the case of Dhoom or Dhoom 2). So hmm I don't see any hot kisses in that picture because as the guy says , people cant watch the films with their kids ! (Look at what your kids are watching on television first! Thats another story altogther!)
Maybe some even live in time times when one wants to show that two people were 'in love', you should cross two roses across each other to show that 'something' ( giggle giggle tee heee hee blush oh no I'M GOING TO FAINT!) is happening.
Yeah. Rock on, dude.
Er okk I'm about done now. And I do not mean to offend anyone with my views.
Also, liked
Amit Varma's take on the issue !
