I was sitting on the bus home from work today. Happily (sort of) day dreaming away. When all of a sudden I spot this advert for the Scottish infantry. At first glance I thought "Ah, they are trying to link joining the army with sports. But with a little closer inspection It occurred to me this advert did not make any sense whatsoever. Lets take a look, shall we...
First there was a guy snowboarding on the scotland flag, to left of that was these words...
Half pipes, slides, grabs - Whats it all about?
You might find out if you join us. Like SPORT?
Then spring into action and call us, or visit the website
Then to the left of that is... SCOTTISH INFANTRY, NEVER STRONGER
Ok, now... Is it just me?
The bit about the pipes and stuff... "Whats it all about?" What do they mean, whats it about? Skating, maybe? or do they mean "we are fighting for your freedom" or something hideously patriotic like that?
"You might find out if you join us" I'm not up to date with this kinda thing but I wasn't aware that the army was a prime source of Philosophical answers. Or do they mean skating, again?
"Like SPORT?" WTF? The sport really was in capitals... that sentence is just so random, it seems like they just dropped it in there for the hell of it. Or maybe to actually confirm, to those of us who weren't aware, they were trying to make a connection between the army and sports.
"Then spring into action and call us" Oh come on... thats just cheesy!
Maybe I'm missing something, but that was one heck of a bad advert. I'd think it funny but I find its just sad. Lots of people join the army... What a waste of life... really... The way I see it, soldiers do 2 things: Destroy and be destroyed.
What I'm really trying to say here is... I hate war, it is a complete waste of everything involved... Lets not encourage the ones that "run" the country.
