Another incident of not being able to leave well enough alone...
I let my feelings clearly be known to her but also said I meant no harm. Nevertheless, the friendship is frazzled. We spoke on the phone and she said "of course we're still friends". But her cool manner just a few hours later in person announced her feelings with chilling clarity.
It could have been worse. I could have have said something really stupid in one of my emails her husband found. (Do spouses regularly share email adresses?)
For now, she'll be a lady I work with. If we exchange a smile again, that will be enough. And I need to shake her out of my system before it gets to be a real problem.
