Somebody might be looking out for me.

Last week, I went to the horse races again. I didn't post anything about it but I meant to. I don't know very much about picking horses, really. I look in the newspaper and see which horses the "experts" are picking. I brought $20 with me. After four races, I had one dollar bill and about three bucks in change. Ouch. I need to stop betting on races when I don't feel confident about the horses.

I nearly went home but I decided to get another $20 from the ATM. I placed a couple of more bets and won some money back.

Then I heard that the track was offering a "Pick Four" on races 8 through 11. That's when you pick the winners of four consecutive races. I looked at the horses I was thinking about in those races. The experts had agreed on most of the races. What the hell, I put two bucks on the ones I though would win.

Lo and behold, the first three of the horse I picked actually won!

I needed one last horse. I was sure if I hit I would be coming home with about $400 or more. It was cold and raining and about 10:30 at night. There was hardly anybody there. When the horses ran by me, I was jumping up and down, waving my arm like a freaking windmill.

My horse came in third. I looked at my ticket and cursed under my breath a little bit. I walked by a trash can and nearly threw it in there. But for some reason, I held onto it and walked inside. I listened to the announcer to see how much money the Pick Four winning bettors would be getting.

The announcer said that the Pick Four would be paying $60 for any three out of four races. Apparently, nobody picked them correctly and the people who picked three out of four would get to split the winnings.

Whoopee. A couple of hours prior, I was down to about four dollars. I cashed in my ticket, stuffed the money into my wallet and walked to my car. Once in my car, I scattered all the money, including lots of dollar bills, on the seat. (The sight of all those dollar bills reminded me of a stripper I used to date).

After I counted the money, I had about $90. From four bucks to ninety. Nice. I think I'm going back in a couple of days.
