My Grandfather died today, just after noon.
We were pretty close - I spent a lot of time with him when I lived in Joliet. He was a retired Will County judge, and lived there as well.
It's a huge loss for me, words can't describe the kind of man he was. Funny, smart, caring, compassionate. Everybody has "Bruno" stories. As a kid, I used to love sitting in the courtroom watching him work.
At any rate, his health had been declining rapidly over the past few months. We knew then end was near a few days ago...I thought I had prepared myself, but it still felt like I was kicked in the stomach when I got the news.
Fortunately, he went peacefully, surrounded by family. If there a way that I could pray for him to pass on, this would be it. I know heaven was waiting for "The Judge" to arrive.
Enjoy the well deserved rest, Grandpa Bruno. Next time I'm in Joliet, I'll have dinner at Al's and have a drink in your honor.
