Another early morning for us. We thought we were early enough to try for the $10 parking under the Convention center (it was early enough last year) or at least the ramp next to it, but we simply sat in ridiculous traffic for about 40 minutes before giving up and heading to the $20 parking at Petco Park across the train tracks.
The first panel of the Day was Farscape. Unfortunately it conflicted with the SGU panel, so we had to make a choice. It really wasn't that difficult a choice since we know we like Farscape and SGU hasn't even aired yet.
The lighting in the room was horrible! Awful shadows were cast on the faces of the panel. I am not sure how well my pictures turned out because of that.
The panel was fun though. I can't really remember any details. I fail!
After that, there really wasn't anything for me to do until the Eureka panel at 3:15. I wandered a bit. Ate a pretzel with nuclear cheese and sat and decompressed for a bit. The boy went to a panel, but I was tired of sitting in dark rooms for the time being.
I ended up heading back into the room (Eureka panel was in the same room as Farscape) one panel early. A friend had sat through the previous panels (Lucy Lawless was in the panel for Spartacus) so she still had our original seats in the 4th row. Yay.
The Eureka panel consisted of Joe Morton (last minute addition), Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Erica Cerra, Neil Grayston and Jaime Paglia. Jaime Ray Newman, who is new to the cast this season (she plays Tess and was Lt Laura Cadman in Atlantis), joined the panel as well.
I was sad that Colin Ferguson was not there, but they did give him a call in Bulgaria where he is filming 'Lake Placid 3'. That was amusing. At the end of the phone conversation, the moderator asked him if he had any parting comments or questions and Colin said, "Yeah, I do. Are we going to get a 4th season pick up?" The phone they were calling him with belonged to Syfy's VP, so the question was directed at him. The actors on the panel emphatically agreed. He got up on stage (I want to say it was Mark Stern) and said that they weren't planning on announcing it this way, but they will be asking for a 22 episode 4th season. There was much rejoicing. It was obvious that this was the first the actors had heard of the news. They hugged. It was fabulous. It was, of course, no surprise to creator Jaime Paglia.
Mark Stern then countered with a request for 'one or two' of the episodes be musical, much to the delight of the panel (who can all sing), but much to the dismay of Colin Ferguson on the phone (who cannot). He requested a 'reduced role in the musical episode'.
We finally met up with our new friend Thu. She's fun. It was a brief meet up that day, though, with promises of catching each other at the Sanctuary panel the next day.
And I've lost my memory from the rest of the day. I think we just called it an early night, and ate PB&J sandwiches for dinner back at the condo.
*edit* gah! How could I forget! After the Eureka panel we went to the Boom! Comics booth on the dealer floor where Ed Quinn (Stark from Eureka) and Andrew Crosby (writer/creator of Eureka) were signing autographs. The original plan was to buy a bottle of Ketle One Vodka for Ed Quinn to sign, but we fail. We saw one at the grocery store on Wednesday night, but didn't get it because we figured we'd have time to pick one up later. We fail.
Anyway, we told him that we were going to get him the vodka to sign and he called us 'the coolest people'. Hee! We chatted about the commercials. I mentioned that I heard he was friends with Aaron Douglas (Aaron mentioned back at the BSG con a few years ago that his friend had landed a role in the new show 'Eureka'). Ed said that they did hang out, but his bff was Tamoh Penikett and that he's already texted him 4 times that day. He was wicked tan and he said that he is now based in Manhattan Beach area, so although he misses his friends back in Canada, Tamoh was also based in L.A. while filming Dollhouse, so that was cool. Got my picture with him. He drew us a martini glass since we didn't have the vodka. He's a cool guy.
