Sore, but good!

Today was my first day of running homework.

I was a bit sore from the running yesterday so I pulled it back a bit on the elliptical, staying at about 130-140 rpm instead of my usual 150+. Did this for 20 minutes.

Then I hopped on the treadmill!

Not nearly as scary as I thought. I started out at 3.5 mph, but that was too slow so after about a minute I kicked it up to 3.7 mph. I stayed at this pace for 4 minutes and then kicked it up to 4.0 mph and remained at this pace for the last 5 minutes. I didn't mess with the incline at all, just kept it level. I really didn't start feeling it until about 8 minutes in or so.

I ended up running about 0.66 miles, which is 2.6 times around a track and I averaged at about a 15 1/2 minute mile or so.

Not too shabby for my first time out.

I think tomorrow I will start at 3.8mph and then kick it up to 4.0 for the last half again.

Each week I plan on taking 5 minutes from the elliptical time and adding it to the treadmill until I am just running on the treadmill. By next week I would like to be at a 15 minute mile since I will be on the treadmill for 15 minutes.

I think I will soak in a warm bath again tonight. I am sore, but it's a 'good sore'. I just need to make sure I am able to participate in dance class on Wednesday. That will be the real test. If I am too sore on Wednesday, then I will have to rethink my Tuesday workout. My feet are surprisingly good, it's my quads and inner thighs that are unhappy.
