Medical was quiet now, Chris was pretty sure she was the only one in the room. She didn't have a concussion and the doctor said the knot on her forehead should heal in a few days.

Michelle wasn't allowed in while they were being treated and Jack left too fast for her to even see him.

She walks into the room and looks at Chris.

"Chris?"

"Michelle. What are you doing here?" She's surprised to see her here and, as an afterthought ads, "It's your birthday."

Not that Michelle would be out celebrating but it seems worth mentioning.

"Bill called me," she goes to take a seat and instead hugs her briefly. "When Bill told me -- "

"What did Bill say?" she asks, hugging her back. "Did he tell you Jack had been framed?"

She pulls back and sits, waiting a moment before making eye contact. "No, he saw that we were business partners and wanted - he thought that you might be in danger, that Jack had snapped - "

It takes a moment for Chris to comprehend what Michelle is telling her. "Jack wouldn't... I can't believe Bill thought that."

"Bill doesn't know all the facts," she frowns when she realizes she's defending him. "Chris, they interrogated Kim. I couldn't stop it."

"She was," Chris echoes softly, not surprised but still horrified by this news.

Because she was trying to help us.

"Did you see her? Is she all right?"

"I saw her for a few moments, she seemed okay -- I heard Bill stopped Agent Doyle when he started getting too rough." She looks up at Chris. "What happened to you?"

"Oh God, Doyle." The man was a sadistic nutjob, she still didn't know how he had a job.

"I'm fine. I got into a fight," she says, making a fluttery gesture towards her forehead. "The man responsible for Palmer's murder, he sent some people after us. They said they were Secret Service but they weren't. Obviously."

Not quite the same tone as Milo but the same idea. "I tried to stop them, but there was nothing I could do." She admits. Michelle hates being powerless in CTU.

"Obviously," she echoes. "Are they being prepped for interrogation?"

"No, not yet. There's only one of them, the guy who killed Palmer and he's in surgery, I think. I don't even know what his name is." She sighs, her shoulders slumping and she realizes she hasn't had anything to eat since she woke up this morning.

She's not sure why she's surprised that the others are dead. "I keep thinking we should have investigated more, should have - maybe if I hadn't been...maybe we could have stopped this from happening."

"Chris? Are you okay?" she looks at her with concern. "What did the doctors say?"

"Yeah, I'm just hungry." And a little tired. She looks at Michelle and adds, "You can't feel guilty about this. Whoever did this, knew what they were doing. The badges they were carrying, the access they had to Palmer, everything."

Michelle bends down a little and opens her bag. She pulls out a package of saltines. "I still carry these around," she says, handing them to Chris.

"I'm not talking about today," she glances off to the side. "I'm talking about months ago."

Chris gives a small surprised laugh but accepts the crackers gratefully. "Thanks."

Her look becomes more serious. It hasn't even been four months since Tony's death. Everything still seemed so strange, so different, like that had been years ago. Sometimes she couldn't believe he'd been alive just a few months ago. "Maybe. Maybe things would have gone differently today. But we don't know that for certain and we all had a lot to deal with after China."
