I just finished watching 10+ hours of the mini-series Band of Brothers -- completely fantastic, highly recommended, and don't miss it. I laughed, I shuddered and it finally left me in tears. But it also made me think -- when was the last time something that mattered happened..? I mean, World War II was so cut and dry, good vs. evil, and it MATTERED. Gulf War II? Not so much. Gulf War I? Even less so. Farm Aid, Woodstock Modern Bullshit, blah blah blah. The UN Security Council today voted to CONSIDER to DISCUSS the ethnic cleansing in the Sudan -- over a million people tortured and slaughtered.. thank God we're going to start thinking about if we should do something. Go good guys. But then I think back to history class -- millions of people dying in Europe, the good guys are losing and Americans gear up to do what..? Nothing. Americans are comfy, no one is dying in North America so fuck 'em. We didn't give a flying fuck until those bastard Japs DARED to shoot up prime tourist real estate. Nothing ever mattered, nothing matters now, rich fuckers like George W. send people to die for crap shit nothing while other people are being killed for crap shit nothing in hell holes where we SHOULD be sticking our necks out.
