Greedy

Like so many others, over the years I've constantly made a New Year's resolution to try and lose weight. Most years I fail miserably and don't even get to the point to even start trying to lose weight. I've lost weight a few times before, but this year feels different. It probably helps that I got to a weight that I found unacceptable (almost 200 ( Read more... )

This is such a great post! First, serious congrats on the weight loss! You're doing amazingly. Weight loss is such a frustrating thing for women, because our bodies have evolved to hang on to every scrap of fat. Just keep going, and remember that everything you do IS worthwhile. Even if you hit a plateau, keep going. That was the mistake I made with my pushups. I was able to do 50 real pushups in a day but I could never get above that, so I gave up. Now it hurts to do 10 in a row. :-( Maintenance is super important, and we need to remember to feel good about the fact that we're still getting up and doing it, even if we're not seeing results the way we want to. Weight loss and strength-building for women is a long game, but the eventual payoff is a longer, healthier life.

You can prepare yourself for the work party by having some questions in your pocket. People love talking about themselves. Even if you don't really give a shit what their answers are, just ask them questions and smile and nod as they talk, and they'll do all the work. Some good questions: Do you have any hobbies you're passionate about? Do you have any long-term goals you're really excited about? Are you from around here? A big part of conversation then is figuring out what followup questions to ask. Say someone has an unusual hobby. You can ask how they got involved. Or if they're not from around here, ask about the place they're from. If they are around here, ask if their family is in town and if they have any neat traditions. Stuff like that is comparatively low effort for you but makes the other person feel like you've had a super satisfying interaction.

If your cramps are so bad that you can't work, you can actually qualify for partial disability.

Thanks! I definitely am trying not to get too discouraged. Having the wedding goal keeps me going.

Thanks for the advice. A lot of great examples. The party was alright. I tried to have questions prepared but it didn't go exactly as I'd hoped. But I'm going to keep trying.

Didn't know that about the disability. I'm hoping those types of cramps don't keep re-occurring for me.
