And Twenty Years Later...

Jun 07, 2013 03:05

My birthday was pretty great! First, I'd like to thank again those who sent me birthday wishes through PMs, posts, or v-gifts. It was all so appreciated and made my day!

I didn't really do anything out of the ordinary. Like last year, I got to spend the entire day with Michael, so that immediately made it pretty awesome. without going into too much detail, everyone should wake up the way that I did. Mike said that we could do whatever I wanted. Me, being Miss Indecisive, was having trouble deciding where we should eat and what movie we should see. I finally, after way too much internal debate, decided to go to Chili's and later go and finally see Iron Man 3.

I don't totally regret everything I ate that day. My birthday definitely had to be a cheat day and the cheese cake, margarita, and ribs, were kind of worth it. We went back home for some more fun times and then we went to get ice cream at Coldstone Creamery before the movie. I'm a big weirdo in that while I love apples, for some reason I don't like the apple pie filling. They had this ice cream there which is basically apple pie in ice cream form and I had it without the apple pie filling. It was pretty great.

Iron Man 3 was great, soooo much better than Iron Man 2. Iron Man 2 wasn't a trainwreck or anything, but it was very forgettable IMO. IM3 basically had a better plot that was easier to follow. It was funny, lots of great action. I won't give anything away but Ben Kingsley is brilliant.

Our one real snag for the day was that after we left the movie our car wouldn't start. It had been light out when we arrived, but it had been raining and Michael forgot to turn off the lights and the battery died. We called Greg and Jean for a jump. She wasn't too happy because I don't think she realized we'd be out for a long time and they'd gotten a cake for me. We didn't eat the cake until tonight.

Might have hit our first wedding snag. The other day we were having dinner and Jean mentioned that we might want to reconsider our wedding date. She said she and Greg are always trying to get away for their anniversary but can't because of the bad weather during hurricane season. I don't know why I didn't think of that before, especially considering hurricane season just started. I don't necessarily care too much about future anniversaries, since Mike and I aren't huge travelers (don't have the money for it.)

Mike isn't too concerned because he said bad weather is why we're having an indoor wedding, which does make sense. But if there's a really bad tropical storm or hurricane people may not want to travel, or won't be able to travel. Having a wedding with raging winds and rains outside isn't really ideal. And if everything had to be postponed, I don't know if we'd get our money back or get a free do-over date. Then again, hurricane season lasts almost half the year, people don't stop scheduling weddings in all that time.

Other than that, things are going mostly okay in the wedding planning area. We haven't made any real concrete plans. I looked up some banquet halls in the area and there are some good ones. We were eating at one of our favorite local Italian restaurants today. Mike really likes a spinach salad they have there and they have a white wine that I really like. Mike talked about possibly having them doing the catering for the wedding and we got a catering menu from them.

Jean wants us to do this jumping the broom thing. She mentioned it and for some reason was surprised that I hadn't thought about it and wasn't immediately gung ho about the idea. I've looked up the symbolism for it and it's nice, and Mike has no problem with it, but I'm not 100% about it.

Last Thursday I had a job interview at a local movie theater. I thought it might be cool if I got a job that day and later (my third David's Bridal appointment was that day) found my wedding dress. So far only one of the two has happened. Mike doesn't think at this point that they're going to call back and I'm not sure either. The interview was really short. I got back in my car and was shocked when I saw only five minutes had passed. I wasn't completely happy with the answers I gave and I flailed around a lot for ways to answer their questions. They said corporate would give me a call if I got the job. It's been a week, so I'm not sure if it's going to happen or not.

But I may have found a temporary job - babysitting. When I was younger I loved The Babysitter's Club books and always wanted to be one and now twenty years later it's happening. Hurray? Jean's boss is looking for a sitter for his daughter during the day. Jean asked Mike about it and he told her that I probably wouldn't be interested and when he first told me about it, I wasn't really keen on the idea. He said that I'd probably have to start at 5 or 6 and there was no way I could wake up that early. When he talked to his mom she said that her boss would actually drop the kid off at our house, so that made the job much more doable. But I still wanted to know how early it would be for and how many days and what I would be getting paid. I never found out how much I'd be making but it would be for four days a week. She would be dropped off around 7:30 and would be there for awhile, but Jean said she'd take over once she got home from work. I'd probably have to wake up at 7, and that's a little early for me, but I have been trying to graduate to waking up at that time ever since I moved in with Michael. Plus, we need the money, so I said I would do it.

It's probably just going to be from the summer while she's on vacation and staying with her dad. I don't know her name yet, but she's ten years old. Jean sent a picture of her and she's absolutely adorable. But she looks very chatty. I don't know if you can really tell that from a picture, but she seems really bubbly. I'm a lot more patient with overly chatty kids than overly chatty adults, but I still have an aura that screams "OMG shut up" when I'm around people like that, so it makes me nervous.

I've babysat my demon niece when I was younger, but I've never gotten paid for it and I don't have a lot of experience with kids in recent years. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with her all day. Mike says that since we have a Wii, I can just put her in front of that and g o about my day, that I can use the time to write, which will be good. But I don't know if just sitting her in front of the TV is going to cut it. I don't know if I'm supposed to watch her like a hawk. I don't know if I can read smut while she's in the same room. what if she accidentally sees something and is scarred for life?

Mike's on vacation for the next week and we're going camping this weekend. It'll be just my second time camping. At least we hope we're going camping. It's been raining pretty hard here all week (I've been teasing Mike about it a lot since he's always complaining about the lack of rain here. "Well, you wanted rain and now you've got it.") The last time Jean and Greg tried to go to this place, they ended up having to leave early because of the bad weather. we're going to St. Augustine and Mike's really excited about this ghost tour thing he told me about.

Mike said his mom told him there's not really any internet connection around there and that we probably won't even be able to use our phones, which really sucks. There are outlets in the camper so I'll be able to write, but I may have to do some writing by hand which I'm not really looking forward to. But I'm determined to write the next few days, so however I have to do it, I will.
