Allow myself to introduce...myself

Jan 26, 2013 00:17

Since it's been a week since asya_ana's awesome friending meme and I finally have a little time to do a proper introduction post. I've never done one of these so bear with me. I'm trying to get more organized, so I'll try to do this in a somewhat organized fashion.

Name: Stacey

Age: 32

Sex: Yes, please. (Sorry, trying to stick with the Austin Powers theme.) Female

Location: Weeki Wachee, FL (When my boyfriend first told me the name of the city he lived, I had to laugh. I'd never heard of it before.)

Significant Other: I've been with my boyfriend Michael for two years. We met on EHarmony. I used to complain and complain to friends about never getting dates and I had a friend, Holly, who said that she thought I would be one of the lucky ones and find one special guy and I'd be set for life. I wasn't really sure, but she turned out to be right.

Career Aspirations: I'd always wanted to be an actor when I was growing up. I'd always act out stories and books I'd read. But by the time I made it to high school and was in drama class, I felt that maybe I wasn't cut out for it. I'm a little too shy and self-conscious. So I kind of branched out and wanted to explore filmmaking and writing. I even managed to get into my dream school - NYU. (Sadly, monetary reasons kept me from going.)

Things I'd love to do: Finish school. Have a roadtrip across the US. Travel to London, Wales, Italy, France, Ireland. Learn Italian. Learn Welsh. Learn how to play the guitar, violin, piano. I'd love to learn how to dance Have a threesome with Bradley James and Colin Morgan (actually I'd probably just sit it out and watch the two of them ;))

Celebrity Crushes: Obviously Colin Morgan and Bradley James. Gareth David-Lloyd. I used to have crushes (and still am fans of) - River Phoenix (he's dead, but I still love his movies), Brendan Fraser, Joaquin Phoenix, Jake Gyllenhaal, Cillian Murphy.

Hobbies: Reading, writing, singing, music, movies, watching way too much TV, flailing/overanalyzing over TV shows/couples, surfing the internet.

Movies: My top two favorite movies are Stand By Me and The Breakfast Club. My other favorites are Scream, Speed, The Princess Bride, Back to the Future, The Goonies, Dirty Dancing, Say Anything, The Secret of My Success, The Mighty.

Music: I generally like most kinds of music. I don't seek out country music, but I have lots of songs from that genre that I like. I don't really like jazz, classical, or metal music.

Fandom love: My main love right now is Merlin. I got into it after Ianto was killed on Torchwood. I made friends with someone who talked about the show a lot. But I wasn't sure I wanted to try it. I didn't know a lot about the legends but I knew there was no way Arthur/Merlin would get together on the show and I didn't want to watch another show with a Gwen character getting in the way of a favorite couple. But I decided to read fanfic for them. A lot of it was really amazing. Eventually, I wanted faces and voices to go with what I was reading, so I checked out some Merlin on YouTube. I wasn't instantly head over heels, but the chemistry between Merlin and Arthur couldn't be denied. So I eventually watched it and really enjoyed the show. I loved Merlin/Arthur and Bradley/Colin, but I didn't officially becom obsessed until the fourth series. The show disappointed me a lot during the end, especially the end, but my love for the actors and Merlin/Arthur will never die. I spend way too much time reading fanfiction, watching vids, visiting messge boards about it. I've entered a lot of fests for the show, and it's been really cool getting my writing mojo back, writing stuff for the show.

TV (Present): Since Merlin ended I thankfully don't have any shows that I'm hardcore obsessed with, or really participate in fandom wise. But some of my favorite current programs are: Once Upon a Time, Elementary, Teen Wolf, The Walking Dead, Doctor Who, Sherlock, Downton Abbey, Raising Hope, The New Girl, The Mindy Project, The Middle, Modern Family, Suburgatory, Revenge, Supernatural, The Big Bang Theory, Parks and Recreation, Dancing With the Stars, Best Week Ever, Glee, CougarTown. I've only watched half a season of Community, but I like it. Yes, the DVR gets quite a workout.

TV (Past): My all-time favorite show is Friends. It was really before I got online and got involved in fandoms, though I did visit a message board or two occasionally. I used to be as obsessed with Torchwood as I am Merlin. But Ianto was my absolute favorite on that show and I loved Jack/Ianto. When they killed Ianto off, and on top of that, the headwriter RTD was such a dick about it, I stopped watching. That's actually been a problem with several shows I've loved. I consider myself a pretty loyal fan, but I've dropped several shows when things started to suck. I stopped watching Grey's Anatomy after the fourth season. I dropped Felicity during its last season. I recently dropped How I met Your Mother (I don't care what the title of the show is, it shouldn't be taking this damn long to meet the mother. Plus, Barney/Robin - ick.) It was a struggle to get through Buffy's last year. Anyway, past shows I've loved - Roswell, Buffy, the Vampire Slayer, Charmed, Seinfeld, King of the Hill, House, My Name is Earl.

Soap Opera Girl: I've been watching soaps since I was five or six, so it's a hard habit to kick. Even though General Hospital did suck for quite a long time that I had to take a break. Thankfully, now it's getting better. It was very sad when two of the shows I'd watched for years - All My Children and One Life to Live were cancelled last year. It's been great news this year to find out they'll be coming back on-line.

How I got into slash: It's kind of surprising for me to think about, considering how much I love, love, love slash, but I kind of got a late start with it. I'd known for awhile that I love watched slash when I became a fan of Queer as Folk (US), but I remember being slightly embarrassed about it and thinking it was abnormal, until I found out there were women all over who loved it. I think it was during the last season of Buffy that I was just surfing around online and found some slash. It was, I think, Angel/Xander. I remember being disturbed, mostly because I hated Angel when he was on Buffy and could never picture those two together. But I did get tingly reading some of the smut. It wasn't really until Torchwood that I really read slash fiction. I did get into Torchwood because I had been checking YouTube for slash. I also got into some German soaps like Verbotene Liebe and their hot, hot couple Oliver/Christian at the same time.

RPF Whaaat?: I never thought I would be into RPF. I understand the naysayers thinking it can be kind of creepy. But my other OTP, other than Merlin/Arthur, is Bradley/Colin. I just really can't help it. I'm not delusional, it's not as like if either one of them got married someday, I'd insist they're secret boyfriends. I try not to overanalyze or make stuff up, but from I've seen I think it's possible there could be something more there. So it allows me to basically read fic with them, treating them like fictional characters.

Words: I'm shy and an introvert. I kind of find it ironic that I want to be a writer and yet I struggle with finding words to make conversation. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten into an arguement, or just in regular conversation, that its not until hours later that I think of the right thing to say. Also on the words front, I've really gotten into playing Words With Friends, so if anyone's playing right now, I'd totally love to take you on.

Wow! I wasn't sure what to write, but once I got going, I really got going. Didn't mean to write a novel; I really need an editor. Anyway, that's all for now. I'm sure I've forgotten something I'll think of later. Anyone have any questions, lay it on me. Or share any interesting facts about yourself. I have a Dreamwidth account. I'm Geeklover80 over there, though I rarely use that account. Don't have a Tumblr account yet. I'm FilmGeekStacey on Twitter if anyone wants to follow me there.
