Angel Heart (1987) One of those films I'd read about but never got round to seeing; it was on TV the other night. Man. I'm so glad I decided to watch it... a masterful blend of hard-boiled detective noir and the supernatural, filmed on gritty location in the News (York and Orleans), and jam-packed with symbolism and meanings that become much clearer upon a second viewing. I don't want to spoil the story, but... you should see it. Pronto.
An annoying little trait of mine is that if I notice some sort of facial blemish or feature on an actor, I'm unable to look away from it from then on (see: Robert De Niro's mole while watching this film, Joaquin Phoenix's funny lip in Walk The Line, etc). I need help!
Also, call me a big girl if you like, but I just finished reading White Oleander, I found it in a charity shop for 29p and it looked intriguing. I found it a little on the pretentious side at times (tortured artist child writes about tortured imprisoned poet mother!), but it made me think about foster families and how tough some kids have it. Choked me up, it did.
