My turn to eat Rachel Brice's Brains..

A long time ago dervishspin wrote about Rachel Brice and a workshop she took with her. My title references that rather epic little post. It was when I realized, holy crap! They do Belly Dance WORKSHOPS! This thing is HUGE!

I got to take a two part workshop with Rachel this weekend, some of it was Yoga, but a lot of it was drills and working on proper movement and form. I really enjoyed it. She has moved away from doing more yoga partly because of some recent learning she did,it seems, and also because without knowing our bodies and spines, she doesn't want to risk injury. I appreciate that.

What this class taught me had a lot to do with my movement and limitations. I realized that I hadn't been doing anything wrong with my right arm as far as undulations, my bones just aren't set up to move in the same range of motion as my left arm. I'm not sure what to do with that information yet, but it was good to find out.

I also realized that there is something odd with my spine when I am doing mayas (up to down movement) I think I have some damage in a few of the vertebrae. Will address this, and avoid such movements in the immediate future. I Don't Like clicky/crunchy feelings.

Zoe Jakes and Mardi Love who both taught afternoon classes were fabulous as usual. They have such an eye for the technical and keep me thinking. I also love that I can take home things to work on, as well as stretches and exercises to share with my Troupe :)

Everyone was lovely, I got to see Ela (another dancer from the Boston area) and went shopping with my fashion consultant/wonderful friend Ruthie.

The icing on the cake for the whole weekend though was my bus getting back to South Station and finding out that damagedmuse had driven there to get me, and proceeded to bring me to the CBC for dinnah. They had the Pumpkin ale out, so we ate, drank beer, (I also got a heather ale, because it's still on tap!) and watched a downpour start outside while we sat snug and dry under the outside canopy. I couldn't have asked for a better ending to my weekend.

I may have other things going on in my life that are frustrating or overwhelming, but having him as my partner makes everything easier. It is priceless.

classes, friends, dance, love
