That video...that's bizarre! Like...there's a wall around the whole city that's acting like a teleporter?!

But if this isn't the real Manhattan...then what is it? What about the people that were living here before the monster came?

I'm starting to have suspicions about the nature of those who were already living here before, myself included.

We have lost days. All of us have. Who knows what they do during those days. In any case, I'm not sure what to think anymore.

Suspicions? What do you mean?

Yourself included? Do you think you and the regular citizens have been brainwashed?

...I wasn't here for the missing days events, so I can't really give an experienced opinion on that. It does seem suspicious that they could knock everyone out at once for an entire day or more.

I think we should get a few of the leading people together to discuss possible what are the best theories for what's happened. You, of course, maybe Harry Dresden, the Doctor...people with different experiences. I've had a lot of experience with alternate and virtual realities, if we want to cover that theory. What do you think?

Something like that, maybe. I'm not too sure. Everything feels different...

You may have, and you just don't notice it. When people vanish, they're taken with no recollection of the event, neither do those present remember them. You can't just break into someone's house, snatch them from their beds, and not disturb the other occupants. There've never been any signs of struggles, either. I certainly don't remember anything. Just waking up with marks on my wrists.

Sounds good. We can meet at One Police Plaza sometime.

[humorless laugh] That's a comforting thought. I don't know. Some things seem to point towards a virtual realitie, while others point away from it. What about what we found in Central Park? That sort of thing wouldn't be necessary if this were a fake enviornment.

[Private to Aya // Unhackable}

Great. I'll ask the Doctor and Harry if they are up for it. Know anyone else who would be helpful in this arena?

[smiling] Also, thanks for those computer code lessons - I'm actually starting to get it right, I think. How's your Japanese coming along?

Exactly. I highly doubt that they would go through the trouble of experimenting with the parasites if they were just digitally created. There would have been other means of testing that over a virtual database.

Plus, when we went down to the subways, we pursued a group of them. Men in gray suits. However, back then... It was just like on the river. They just vanished.

I don't know.

Mac might be interested. He helped with the preparations as well. That kid, Chao, also seems to have some interesting ideas.

Oh, right. You're welcome. I'm glad all that hanging out with my techy colleague paid off. And my Japanese is coming along nicely, thank you. Still have to work on my pronunciation. Maybe I should practice with Naoki sometime.

These are excellent points. And then there was the strange message on the computers, and the equipment we found in the castle in Central Park.

Well, this is encouraging. Anything that leads AWAY from the virtual reality possibility is good news to me.

[Private to Aya // Unhackable.}

I don't know Chao, so perhaps you could ask her. I'll try to contact the other three...discreetly.

Naoki would be a good practice partner, it being his first language. I have trouble with the pronunciation a little myself. It's impressive you've learned so quickly, it being one of the more difficult ones out there!

Honestly, if that's what it is, I'll be relieved. It's the least confusing and concerning option out there that I've seen so far.

...It might just be a very detailed construct. Maybe a pocket dimension, like someone else suggested. We have to figure out a way to be sure.

Just from the video, it looks like a similar thing that I've seen sometimes...like when you're teleported someplace else.

How can we be sure?

Really? You've experienced teleportation before? And it works like this?

That's really pretty encouraging.

...I don't know yet. But it hasn't been

Yeah. And not exactly like the way it looks, but...kinda similar.

How is that encouraging?

Heh, well, anything that gives more evidence to this being an enclosed enviornment and less to a virtual reality is encouraging to me. Being stuck in a virtual reality is my least favorite option. I've had a lot of bad experiences with virtual realities. A teleporting barrier could still be grounded in the real world.

I guess so...

I don't see how anyone could get a computer big enough to hold over a thousand people and these huge monsters here!

I don't know. You remember Bobby telling us about that virtual world he visited. Apparantly it was like an entire world...so that might not be totally impossible.

That'd have to be a HUGE computer for a world this big, though! I don't wanna know who would have that kind of power...
