The inaugural pages of
Black Pearl Tales are up. That's the website I'm building to archive the work of all the fine writers at Black Pearl Sails and Black Pearl Library. Some of the members are helping by going through the more than 18,000 posts to make me lists of the ones that are actually stories, rather than random chat or feedback. It's quite an undertaking, but it's going very well. Check it out, if you get a chance, and let me know if you have any suggestions regarding format or content.
honorat is letting me beta the new chapter of her J/E on the island fic, Marooned, and I must have been inspired. Here's a reply to this week's drabble challenge at Black Pearl Sails...
The Second Time
He sits, and takes a deep swig of rum. Medicinal purposes.
Though it's not like the first time.
For one thing, he's not alone.
Oh, she's a mite prickly. But what woman ain't? She's easy on the eyes. He smiles at this gross understatement. And that prickliness... that spirit... that'll keep him amused. And her alive.
That, and the rum.
And that's the other thing: this time he knew about the cache.
That first time, when he'd gained this shore, and turned, and watched his ship -- his Pearl! -- fading into the distance... well, he'd never felt such an agony of impotent fury.
And, yes: despair.
After all, he didn't find the rum right off.
He puts the treasure to his lips: burning, soothing heat. Then turns to savor his companion, moving away, down the beach.
Sweet sway of hips. Flash of bare ankles.
No, it's not like the first time.

ETA: 1) A belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY to
fabu!!!
And 2) I can't believe I didn't mention that
tessabeth wrote a wonderful story,
An Enquiring Mind, per my request and specifications. It's set after the end of her Jack Sparrow/Jack Shaftoe story, Malabar Trade, and features an OFC, Indilla, a Malabari princess, who had befriended Shaftoe during the course of that story. The premise is: After leading a sheltered, if luxurious, life confined to the women's quarters of the palace, Indilla lends her aid to Jack Sparrow and Anamaria in the plot to free Jack Shaftoe from the clutches of Indilla's horrible sister, the Queen of Malabar and ends up a not-very-useful passenger aboard the Black Pearl. Her efforts to adjust to this new life, and to learn things that will make her of some use as an ex-princess, lead to various amusing scenes, and, eventually, to smut of the most delicious, as only
tessabeth can write it. Don't miss it!
