Well, that was fun, with the exception of the note of concern for Norrington that is worrying at Jack (there, you see, he is a good man!); that was slightly melancholy. Poor James. The last line is perfect!

Will check out Google's "Writely" - sounds interesting. Ta, then!

Oh very nice! I almost get the feeling he's a bit sorry for Norrington.

Oh, yes. I think Jack quite understands Norrington and doesn't blame him for doing what's right by him. He's also able to relate to obsession, and risking others to get what you want. He's quite philosophical for a pirate. And all too human.

Thanks so much for commenting. I'm glad you liked it!

Yes. This is one of the things that's interesting about him. He has a brain in there, boiled as it may be!

You know I think this is great, and you wrote it in 15 minutes! Amazing! Love the last few lines and the fact that he's almost concerned about Norrington and the Dauntless :-)

Sometimes those themes just inspire immediate exploration.

I think Jack can sympathise with obsession, certainly, even to the extent of putting others at risk.

Thanks again for the beta read -- I do appreciate your feedback so much.

Jack looked out at the mouth of the bay from the overhang of the quarterdeck steps. "He's out there."
Chills. Waves of 'em, sliding down my back when I read that. This is a wonderful piece.

that plaguey rum-burning chit
Hee! Love it. (and if Elizabeth had a nameplate for her desk, it would read "Elizabeth Swann Rum Burner")

I don't think enough has been written about that hurricane. Poor Norrie.

E. Swann, Rum Burner has a nice ring to it, no?

Glad you enjoyed! Thanks for commenting.

OT: Btw, Julie on BP Sails is choose2live -- had to turn her on to the Impverse. ;)

hehe, had to go find out why my name came up here... *is now a slave to the Impverse and it's ALL SHARON'S FAULT!!!*

Lovely little fic! Feels like another piece of the missing year between Curse and DMC falling into place... nicely done, and makes all kinds of sense. Of course I love the last line; but the rest of it is very telling about Jack in other ways, ways that I like. I love the depth of Jack; it's what makes him one of the most fascinating original characters out there, IMO - he's got more layers than an onion.

And Google develops the most awesome programs... haven't heard of Writely, but I'll definitely check it out!

The Impverse is so amazing one doesn't mind being enslaved in the least -- I've been since October of '04, actually.

So, so true. Which is why we love him. Well, one of the reasons.

Wonderful choice to write about the hurricane. Poor Jack has too many things on his mind. Everything is conspiring against him. And he doesn't even know that the plaguey chit is another catastrophe waiting for a place to happen.

And yay for an appearance by Gibbs!

I like how you have him distressed for the Dauntless and her crew. Jack would feel for Norrington even though Norrington is making his life needlessly complicated when he needs to be extricating himself from Jones' trap.

Excellently done, and all in 15 minutes! *is wildly impressed*

With the word of the week being Catastrophe, the hurricane was a natural. Sometimes these things come to one like a bolt from the blue, you know?

So happy you enjoyed the story -- thanks for letting me know.
