how can you remember so much about high school???

Visited with a friend from high school and early college last night in Phoenix. my big question. how can you possibly remember so friggin much about that time, the details, the stories the people??? It's actually kinda weird and in a way unsettling. do you live in that time still? Do you hold the "oh, those were the times" ideal in your head. I can no more live in the past than i can live in the future. I know no more detail about that time than i do about next month or next week.
Am i the outlier or is she? It's probably me.... but, for the sake of people, i kinda of hope that people don't live so much in the past as that. But then again, who am i to think that my nonconnection to past and future approach to life is better for anyone except for myself. I don't mean to try to say that it is better for anyone besides myself.... i just feel sad for people who have so much of their selves wrapped up so much in the past and times, people and places that no longer exist.
It's necessary for me to go home, but you can never really go home.
