I've been house-sitting for my parents since Labor Day weekend, which really isn't bad. Yes, I'm kept pretty busy with feeding the cats, giving Rosie her twice-daily insulin injections, watering the plants, cleaning the pool, vaccuming, cleaning the litter box, sorting the mail, taking out the trash, and constantly checking that all windows and doors are locked before bedtime, but the trade off is we get to use all my parents' utilities for three weeks instead of ours, and we get to watch their TVs (they have ALL the movie channels). My parents will be returning from their cross country roadtrip this Thursday evening, so this week I have to pull double-duty and make sure everything is clean and organized for their return. I'll be busy the next couple of nights with laundering sheets, vaccuming, and cleaning the bathrooms and kitchen. I'm actually looking forward to moving back to our apartment, mostly because I miss our bed (with the mattress we picked out). Living in my parents' house for the past three weeks has definitely given Fernando and I a reminder that once we move into our new house, we'll have a lot more responsibilities. It has also reassured both of us that we don't really ever want to live in a house with a pool unless we have the resources to hire a pool guy. Each time I scrub the sides of the pool, I end up with sore arms for two days. Not fun.
So--house-sitting is what has occupied the most of the first half of this month. We had Fernando's mom and younger brother over on Labor Day to go swimming and BBQ some carne asada. On Sunday, September 7th, we went to Tanya's going away shindig in Hollywood. A couple days later, Tanya skipped town and boarded a plan to the East Coast. She's currently staying with her mom in Rhode Island, but is looking for an apartment in Brooklyn so she can make the official move to the city. As sad as it is to say that my best friend in the whole world (aside from my husband, of course) has moved 3000 miles away from me, I acutally don't feel that sad. I personally don't FEEL like she's that far away since I pretty much talk to her everyday on Gchat. Also, I am happy for her, because the move to New York brings new opportunities for her and her career. I want her to be successful because she deserves it. She is super talented and she just needs one big break to have commercial success she. I'm tired of her being the "starving artist." I want her to be a "successful and satisfied artist." Hopefully, this move is a step in the right direction. I've already requested a week off from work in April to go visit her--it will be a tremendous occassion--a chance to see my best friend, as well as my first trip to New York City. I'll be traveling alone and staying at Tanya's place, so the only money I'll have to spend will be on my plane ticket (plus spending money for all the food, drink, and entertainment I plan on enjoying in NYC).
This past Friday, I hosted the RUSH BBQ for CSUN's chapter of Sigma Omega Nu in my parents' backyard. The weather was perfect for the occasion. We hung out all afternoon. We played some games, ate some food (hamburgers and hotdogs), and it was really neat to meet their interest. This will be the very first pledge class for CSUN and they have a LOT of interest. So much so that they are planning on handing out 12 bids! That will mean that if all the bids are accepted, the pledges that are pinned will outnumber the sisters 2:1! I am thrilled to watch this chapter grow, considering I was the pledge mother for the (6) Founding Mothers--I expect really great things from the chapter. I can't wait for the pinning ceremony this weekend that I will be attending!
Well--that's the update for now. The rest of the month should be just as busy. I'm working and tutoring as per usual, so I don't get done with my day until 8pm most nights. This weekend is the pinning ceremony. Next weekend I'm planning on hitting up the LA County Fair. Soon enough it will be October and hopefully, we'll be moving into our house!
~LOVE~
P.S. Happy September 16th! Drink a Corona or Tecate for me!
