Long time gone....ADD at home

Jun 30, 2012 08:39

I have opened the post an entry page several times in the last week wondering how to get back in her and blog well this morning as I stood in the tub laughing waiting for Griffin to bring me a towel I had an Idea jump in and post a story of the day from the ADHD house

Now I am not saying that we all have ADHD. Griffin is the only one with a diagnosis. I suspect I have it. But when you live with some one with it and you are not a very strict organizational freak you all feel it a bit.

So with a typical 7 year old you need to be pretty specific about what you want. With some one with ADHD you need to make it short and succinct with a definite goal in mind.

As often happens n my house I jumped in the shower and forgot to check for towel first. so I open the shower curtain and see no towels.

I know that Griffin is up and we are the only two home. So I call down to him. Amazingly I get his attention right away. So I give him the following instruction. "Bring me a towel or two from the basket at the bottom of the stairs."

I hear his feet run happily up the stairs and from just out side the bathroom door he says, "Where are the towels?"
I take a deep breath trying not to laugh and say "In the basket at the bottom of the stairs".

I hear him quickly descend 2 steps and say "There is no basket at the bottom oh there it is." then the happy descent sound happen. He quickly returns and it sounds as if in his pleased with himself he skips a stair or two.

"He bursts in to the bath room and thrusts his booty into my hands and is quickly distracted, with an "ooooo", by the condensation on the mirror over the sink.

His booty consists of a small ragged bath towel and a infant towel. I know that there are 4 fluffy new towels visible in that basket. I laugh out loud and say, "I think I am bigger than this towel Griffin. I think I need a different one."

He turns and takes the towel from me he looks at it and says, "Where should I put this? In the towels closet?" I nod and he jumps out of the bathroom. He begins to speak in his I am sweet but authoritative voice "Mom there are towels in the closet here. Do you want one from her I am going to get you one from here."

"As long as it is a big towel that I can dry off with" I say as I wrap the tattered small bath towel around my head.
He reappears with a big bath towel that is just what I asked for. "thank you Griffin I love you" I say as he scampers away trying not to look in my direction as he has remembered that I am naked and he is embarrassed by that.

This took more time in the telling than the event but I was giggling the whole time.
