Stargate Atlantis Inspired Pillar Candle Holder

While going through some boxes of crafty type stuff the other day, I came across a bunch of things that just kept screaming "Stargate" at me.  And, since I am redoing my bedroom and needed something to put on the top of a shelf for decoration...well, I got creative.

The base is from an old Anchor Hocking brand candle holder that someone gifted me with a couple of years back.  It was originally all black, but I used some silver "sheen" paint rubbed on it to give it a shimmery look.  Why it looks kind of brassy in the photo is beyond me...probably due to the suckage of my phone camera and the poor lighting where I took the pic.  LOL.

At the base, and slightly up inside the clear glass tube that rests on it, is silver sand which is meant to represent the mineral Naquadah that the Stargates are  made of.  Once again, the coloring of the sand is a little darker in reality than appears above.

On top of the sand and surrounding the base of the pillar candle are blue crystal glass stones, which represent the Atlantis gate chevrons as they appear when the gate is dialing (when they light up.)

The pillar candle itself was one I already had (purchased at Wal-Mart about 6 months ago) because when I saw it, the coloring made me think of the Stargate vortex/event horizon.  There were actually three of these candles in a box...and for some reason, if memory serves correct, I remember buying all that the store had.  Fandom crazy.  :)

Hanging on the side of the base by a leather cord is a silver tag that says "Journey" and for me that symbolizes everything about the Stargate up very well.  The show not only depicted a physical journey for the characters from planet to planet, but also a mental/emotional one as well (or in the case of Daniel Jackson, a spiritual one too!)
