A movie accurate replica isn't cheap [ http://www.abbyshot.com/firefly-browncoat.php?gclid=CNSxmobDs6UCFQN7gwodpTGVaA ]. But you should be able to use any duster coat pattern, make it out of brown material like oilcloth and add anything touches [like the cuffs] to make it more 'authentic'.

Here are some other closeups:

To add to seticat's comment, another place you might want to look to make it "movie/show authentic" is the Firefly and Serenity official companion novels. They have original costume designs and such. I used to have the pattern number of a good looking duster and I can look it up if you'd like it, since they're sort of hard to find sometimes.

As far as material and sewing tips goes, while oilcloth would be most authentic (traditional dusters are made from oilcloth, I assume the same holds true for the costume piece), it's also extremely heavy material and very expensive. Even if you were to dish out the money to buy it, a lot of newer sewing machines can't handle it.

Good luck with whatever route you choose to follow!
