Continuation of the boyfriend's stocking

Dec 12, 2013 11:20

As stated before, I love my boyfriend and living with him is amazing, but I have been staying up late nights trying to get stuff finished for his stocking, and I haven't gotten near all I had hoped for finished!

I have however, decided how to incorporate Baker's scarf into the stocking, and am now relying on my childhood friendship bracelet making skills to get it done. I found a pattern for the scarf online here, and because I don't knit (YET!), I kinda toyed with it to adapt it to those friendship bracelets all girls made in their youth. The friendship bracelet pattern that I used can be found here. I chose this one because I want to use it as a garland/tinsel type ornament for the tree on his stocking, though if you want to make one that looks more like a scarf for everyday wear, I'd recommend something like this.

Here is the picture of how mine is coming along-I am doubling it in length in order to have enough to cover the tree, and maybe even have it wrap around the tree, just 'cause I think it'll look nifty:

I took the picture on our sheets because it was the most neutral place I could find to show off the colors-Though this makes me wish I had a white towel or something because the grey is difficult to see.

Obviously, I had to just guess at the colors because embroidery thread doesn't go by the same marking system as yarn, but I think it's coming along nicely.

I almost got found out the other night though when Jeff (the boyfriend) came to bed and I was knotting the embroidery floss and watching netflix, and he says to me, "Whatcha making?" ME: "Oh, nothing. Janet and I were making bracelets at our frolicon meeting today. Just got bored there, and decided to finish it here." JEFF: "Hrrm. Nice. Looks kinda like Baker's scarf." ME: "Oh, um, really? Hadn't noticed..." JEFF: "Night babe, love you!" ME: "Uh, love you too..." *guiltily staring at the floor*

Also, I'm hoping for some advice here-I'm trying to make this stocking include as many of his nerdy loves as possible, and whereas, I have several ideas already, I have some more and I think it would be nice if I could include them as well:

-I would love to have something Harry Potter-ish on here, like maybe a monster book of monsters under the tree? Not sure.
-I am thinking of taking my letter beads from when I was a kid and modding them to look more like keyboard keys (He's an IT specialist for Home Depot, and does it as a hobby/as favors for friends and family), with his son, daughter, and grandkids' initials on them. Sound like it would work or no?
-Any other ideas you might like to throw out there that I may have forgotten!

Thanks in advance!!
