Magic: The Gathering Buttons

Hello everyone! I've started playing Magic recently (thanks to a really awesome boss at a tiny publishing company). I also, therefore, have friends who love Magic. Add to that the giftgiving occasions of Christmas and birthdays, and...I made something that's not related to Doctor Who! It's...refreshing. Also a little strange. ;)

When I first decided to design these, I worried about how well I'd be able to do it. After all, they have a fair amount of detail to them (lots of curves and funny angles), and I'm working with squares and triangles in a fairly small space. So I'm incredibly happy at how well they turned out. They're not an exact match, but they're pretty close. The plains symbol is technically the wrong colour, but I didn't want to go with white on a different colour fabric. The way I've done it, it's on a white background like the others, but its colour matches the background of the plains cards. I kind of cheated on the bottom of the forest symbol, but it was way too finicky to look good using only cross stitches and 3/4 cross stitches.

Currently I've just made buttons from these patterns, but I'm thinking of doing a bookmark eventually - it would be pretty straightforward to just line them up in a row for that. I'm also contemplating magnets. They use most of the same materials, I'd just stick a magnet on the back instead of a pin. But I don't know how many people that would appeal to. Do you guys use magnets that often? Are geeky magnets awesome or kind of boring? :P  I might make some for the convention I'm going too all the way in August, and see how people react to them there (yes, I'm planning THAT far ahead).

If you're interested in the buttons, or just the designs, I have a button set and a pattern set over in my shop. Savour the variety while it lasts - for my next project I'll probably be going back to Doctor Who. ;)  So many ideas!
