I just had an amazing gift idea and no idea how to go about it.

And then I found this place. So, first off: hi!

I was thinking about an amazing Christmas gift for a friend of mine, and what I was toying with is along the lines of a fairy jar, but Death Note-themed. I wanted to take Beyond Birthday (I'm working from scratch here) and put him in an attic-like setting, complete with wooden beams and maybe even a faux window.

My main question is: for the figurine, if I get something that's wood-based, what would be the best type of paint to use so that everything comes out really vibrant? I was thinking acrylic, but I'm worried that it might chip. And if acrylic is the best bet, are there any sealers that would prevent it from chipping? Also, I want to actually make the hair as opposed to painting it on, so is there any specific type (I'm talking a really small figurine) that I should use?

I already know that I'm going to have to glue everything down hardcore, as this is getting shipped over a few states, so is there any type of glue that would both hold and not really show on the outside of the glass?

And most importantly, how dumb is it to try to ship a fairy jar? Am I just asking for it to get smashed?

(Apologies for the 034930 questions, but I'm a total noob who got this idea about ten minutes ago, and she would love it so much, and love it even more if I made it personally, as opposed to commissioning it. Any help would be appreciated and I would love you guys forever.)
