I am a college student and as such my roomie and I have an insane amount of clear beer bottles piling up in our place. I want to break them and make a mosaic with them, but I need to color/dye them first. Short of dying them when they're still molten glass, I would think your best bet would be to paint them. Preferably with waterproof paint. I haven't worked with paint in forever, so hopefully someone else has more expertise and advice.

So, I haven't worked with molten glass (or really any kind of glass since an 8th grade stained glass class), but I'm wondering if these would look pretty interspersed with shiny glass marbles, beads, or flat glass stones (the kind used for faux flower arrangements; Michael's has a ton of them.)

Please post what you do! I'd love to see an Adventure Time mosaic! :D

I'd paint the underside or stick coloured foil to it. Anything on the top would come off.

Thanks for the advice guys, I think I'll be experimenting with these possibilities :). And I'll post the mosaic as soon as it's done :)!

I don't know how this would hold up to the breaking process, but a while back a found a tutorial on Momtastic for tinting the inside of mason jars. Maybe you could break glass, then apply a similar treatment?

Ooh, this is a good idea! With the sheer amount of bottles I have, I think I'll try it both before and after breaking and see which is best :D.
